LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

A bump in sales tax would help schools, services

This is an idea that may sound simplistic and not too popular, but I think it is a good idea: Why don’t we raise the sales tax 1 percentage point in Nevada? That would be an extra 10 cents on a purchase of $10.

Food and medicine would be exempt, so nothing would change there. The tourists would contribute by only paying, for example, $1 more on a purchase of $100.

We need to save the schools and services in an evenhanded way. We pay less in this state on taxes than nearly any other state and our schools show it. My husband and I are a middle-income family and we wouldn’t mind paying a little more to save our state.
