X Train keeps getting worse

So now the much-anticipated X Train will build its train station in North Las Vegas; 6.3 miles from downtown/Fremont Street and 11.3 miles from the Strip. While the X Train promise is of a party train that delivers you direct to the Vegas experience, now a transfer will be involved, because nobody is partying at Craig Road and Interstate 15.

Instead of leaving from Los Angeles, X Train’s only Southern California station will be in Fullerton — 26 miles south of downtown Los Angeles. Don’t get me wrong, downtown Fullerton is cool (albeit overrun with frat boy types), but this train needs stations in both Los Angeles and Orange counties.

Finally, the start date keeps getting pushed back — from 2012 to New Year’s Eve 2013 to sometime in mid-2014. Mind you, they are not building new train tracks, they are using existing ones. As they are using an existing train station in Fullerton, they are only building one train station.

I’m afraid the X Train folks are not going to be able to maintain any excitement for their project, as the start dates continually become more distant and the details a bit less grand. If it ever does open, it also is going to be a bit less convenient than originally promised, which is the one detail that could keep this project from being successful.

  1. The X train should not have a station built in N. Las Vegas, but instead have it built somewhere in between the strip and downtown. Flamingo road would be a good spot for a station, which could cater to both downtown and the strip very easy.Fullerton is also not a good spot for a train station,Anaheim is a much better location for a train station and can serve the L.A. area much easier. This is where the bulk of the riders are coming from anyway.

    We need to make it easier for riders to want to use the X train,instead of discouraging them even before they give the X train a consideration. Both current locations that are being considered seem more like a hassle for riders then anything else. What ever happened to practical solutions ?

  2. This X Train Project is a dismal failure coming out of the gate! It appears that it is catering in the form of political favors, because it is devoid of any common sense or best practices in real world business.

    Since the purpose is to commute people to the "Las Vegas Expericence," then it should TERMINATE somewhere along the Las Vegas Strip area, as the Fremont Street area, where access to popular Las Vegas venues are in close proximity.

    Taxpayers deserve better than what is suggested in Conner Nelson's writing. Our country cannot afford another "bridge to nowhere" by government.

    Yes, back when common sense was the norm, when Eisenhower built our highway systems. Slowly but surely since then the radical right Flat Planet Society gained control. We went from McCarthyism, to the John Birchers, the Moral Majority, Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson, the Birthers, and the latest pack of delusional batcrap crazies, a few of who speak with God.

  4. Who is in charge of this project? He or she shoould be embarrased,this is a joke and should be put to rest if they're just going to nickel and dime it to death.

  5. WHO are the movers and shakers involved with this X Train Project??? WHO are the disinterested Citizens on the Board also making decisions???

    Would truly like to know, so that one can contact them and address this incredible waste of Taxpayer dollars plan. We all know that Senator Reid is somehow involved, so this may be a part of his ongoing political horse trading system.

    First of all, this mode of transportation is OUTdated. They need to look at models as in S.Korea, where transportation is being powered by energy WiFi type magnetic transfers, as they have developed in use for electronic devices as busses and cellphones. Another technology that could be applied is super speed bullet trains. This X Train is a complete waste of time, energy, and money, seriously.

    Origin and destination points can be argued into infinity. Using existing rail easements will likely win out, as they could always go overhead or tunnel below them.

    If this was high speed and affordable to the everyday people in fares, then it would be a fabulous way to commute. Otherwise, all this project will be, is grease to oil some corrupt palms playing the game.
