Letter to the Editor:

Solutions needed for UNLV football

UNLV Athletic Director Tina Kunzer-Murphy said, “We need to change the culture of football.” I never heard it said like that when Coach Bobby Hauck resigned.

Fifteen wins in five years for Hauck and he gladly accepted a $400,000 lump sum buyout rather than a long-term payment of $700,000.

Why would a losing coach walk away with money like that? Who approves these deals? Hauck must’ve attended the Rollie Massimino seminar on contract signings.

Maybe we need to scrap the football program for a couple years. If not, quit blaming losing on culture and other excuses and bring in a no-nonsense coach, a hard-nosed individual who can make this football program a success, unlike Hauck, who had an excuse for losing after every game.

Sure ,recruiting is going to be difficult after letting this losing go on for so long. Kunzer-Murphy said, “We need to do some things internally, not just sitting behind the desk. That’s the problem.” An old boss once told me, “Don’t bring me problems, bring me solutions.”
