The system doesn’t work for most of us

Many of us are concerned about the growing gap between those who are doing very well and the rest of us. It is poorly understood by many Americans that this gap is maintained and increased by wealthy and powerful interests with lobbyists who drive policy in Congress.

It is also incorrectly believed by many Americans that only one party is affected by all this and the other is not. These interests would lobby and buy Martians if there were any in Congress.

The only way to change this dynamic is to go to public financing of campaigns and congressional term limits. Whoever we send to Congress will be co-opted by all this money and lobbying. If they dare to fight it, they will lose their elected position, and everyone we send there knows that. It’s a great system if you are in Congress or a member of the top 10 percent. It is a horrible system for the rest of us.
