letter to the editor:

GOP candidates appease to win

The GOP presidential hopefuls already are facing the same type of dilemma they have in the past. They need to appease the extreme right “wing nuts” to win the primary and then the primary winner needs to try to move closer to the “middle” and defend many of the stances on the issues addressed in the primaries.

All of the top GOP hopefuls, from Jeb Bush to Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz, have supported Indiana Gov. Mike Pence when he signed the religious freedom bill. It is shameful that they, for the most part, sell their soul and cater to the extremists of their party in order to win a primary.

Supporting a discriminatory law to win votes is not leadership. How many more extremist views will they support before a nomination is achieved? Once achieved, what kind of spin will they use to renege on what they previously said?
