letters to the editor:

Invest in solar, not tired, old resources

In the letter to the editor rebuttal “Net metering analogy falls short” (Las Vegas Sun, May 20), the letter writer basically defends the net meter cap of 3 percent. I agree about the complexity of running electricity through the grid in the opposite direction of what was originally intended. However, I find it troubling that the $800 million-plus it takes to build a gas or coal electrification plant could go toward the necessary mechanical and computer system renovation to make rooftop solar viable.

Nevada is short of water, which gas, coal and commercial solar/steam plants use, plus fuel resources are being further depleted. It would be proactive to start spending dollars on a successful rooftop solar future for electrification rather than betting on the same old and tired systems we now use and defending a 3 percent cap.
