letters to the editor:

Lack of discipline plagues our schools

In November, Nevada residents took a bold step in changing the leadership of our Legislature, a move that made education reform possible for the first time since the ’60s. Kudos to the Republicans! But have they really fixed the underlying problem by throwing money at education?

There is so much discussion about smaller class sizes, but anyone who attended Catholic school as a child will recall that discipline went hand in hand with education, whether there were 30 kids or 50 kids in that classroom, and that discipline is what is lacking in the Clark County School District today.

The adage “freedom doesn’t come free” is interpreted to mean there is a cost for the thing we hold most dear. Shouldn’t that same thinking apply to a free education?
