Letter to the Editor:

Lawbreaking Bundy doesn’t deserve coverage

I would expect the Republican-Journal to continue to give publicity Cliven Bundy, a lawbreaker, but the Las Vegas Sun? How disappointing.

Regarding Will Michael (“Supporter gets call from Bundy,” Las Vegas Sun, May 14), who pleaded guilty to threatening a BLM official and making interstate communication threats, Bundy stated, “He’s just a youngster; he seems like a nice young man with good sense for a boy.” Let me remind Bundy that Jerad and Amanda Miller were just youngsters when they shot two police officers and a citizen and that this “nice young man,” in a profanity-laced message, threatened to kill a federal official. Good sense for a boy?

Bundy’s armed stand-off with the United States government makes him a domestic terrorist, and he should be charged as such. In the article, Bundy continued, “He doesn’t know how to defend himself. He faces up to 15 years in prison, and that’s just awful. His parents have helped him pay for a lawyer. And all because the young man spoke his mind.” Speaking his mind and threatening a government official with death are not the same. Finally, Bundy stated, “He was exercising his right to free speech like all of us did. If they’re going to hang him, we all need to be hung because we all have the same feelings.” On this statement I couldn’t agree more.
