Nevadans show strong support for Clinton

Last month, I attended a barbecue in east Las Vegas in support of the Hillary Clinton campaign here in Nevada. Despite the national media narrative of the campaign losing support, more than 60 people showed up for an outdoor event in 100-plus degree heat in the middle of the day. When people knocked on doors, they were not hearing about email scandals but real issues Nevadans face, such as creating a fair immigration system and providing all students with a quality education.

The diverse support for Clinton is both logical and impressive. As someone who worked fresh out of law school for the Children’s Defense Fund as a lawyer combatting child poverty, Clinton understands the needs of our most at-risk communities. There’s a reason her poll numbers are high among Hispanic and black voters: She understands the issues for all Nevadans, not just a niche population. People in east Las Vegas, including many who didn’t vote in the 2014 elections, are excited to come out and caucus for Clinton in February.

As the Democratic caucus heats up, Clinton is building a diverse coalition of Nevadans who are ready for her leadership. You may not hear that narrative in the media every day, but it’s real on the streets of our community.
