Paying for no crime is silly

I just read Jennifer Doleac’s column, “Should we pay people not to commit crime?” (Las Vegas Sun, April 21). That would be a great idea. Think of the millions of people employed in law enforcement, the courts, etc., we could lay off, saving untold tax dollars

Except, oops, now we would have to pay people not to commit the millions of crimes now on the books, from speeding to not paying taxes on time and ... well, you get the point. We would pay them to not commit crimes in the the entire criminal code

Paying people not to commit crimes is by far one of the most ludicrous schemes I’ve heard of. That this columnist is a professor at a large university is truly scary.
