letters to the editor:

Trump doesn’t seem to want to be president

Is it possible Donald Trump never wanted to be president and was just as surprised he beat out 16 others as everyone else was?

He opened with a speech that promised a “big” wall that Mexico would pay for, and he referred to immigrants from Mexico as rapists and drug dealers. He followed by attacking a federal judge from Indiana who has Mexican heritage as well as insulting everyone who said things he disagreed with. Each statement or tweet was followed by a more outrageous one. Ted Cruz was his closest competitor in the primary, and Trump attacked Cruz’s father as being complicit in President John F. Kennedy’s assassination.

After securing the nomination, which probably surprised him, Trump ramped up his outrageous comments such as pandering to Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying NATO should go and suggesting Saudi Arabia, Japan and South Korea should have nuclear weapons.

He probably tried to turn more voters off at the Republican National Convention by saying he alone could remedy our problems, suggesting a dictator’s mentality. He said on one occasion that he could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot someone and his supporters wouldn’t care, suggesting he has succeeded in brainwashing them.

I don’t think he wants to flat-out quit the presidential race, but he would welcome a way to get out. Bashing the parents of a Muslim soldier killed in action was probably his lowest point. It was brutal. He never says he’s sorry, but he is truly a sorry man.
