letters to the editor:

Trump is about opportunity (his own)

The word is out: a majority of Republican officials have called for Donald Trump to publicly apologize to Judge Gonzalo Curiel, the American-born federal judge of Hispanic descent now hearing the Trump University fraud case. Clearly such as apology would only be a small down payment on the apologies Trump owes many other people and all Americans for the inexcusably arrogant, divisive, combative, insensitive and irresponsible comments he has made during his campaign.

Trump has somehow captured the imagination of those who believe that acting irresponsibly and irrationally is a good way of garnering attention. Perhaps there is some truth in this, but acting may or may not be what reality-TV host Trump is all about. If it is, and this isn’t the real Trump, then who is he and what, if anything, does he stand for?

Trump consistently exhibits the behavioral traits attributed England’s maniacal former ruler, King Henry VIII. Hillary Clinton was right when she opined that this isn’t someone you want in possession of our nuclear missile launch codes.

Trump claims he made $500 million last year, yet he continues to whine like a disgruntled billionaire, likely upset about paying any federal income tax. If, like Mitt Romney did, he would have to pony up 14 percent for his taxes, then there go two golf courses he won’t be able to open in his name this year, thereby depriving 30 or 40 low-wage workers of another day-job opportunity. Never forget, Trump is all about opportunity — just not yours or mine.
