letters to the editor:

Voters can’t be lazy when vetting presidential candidates

Lately I have been hearing about all the changes proposed by the presidential candidates. Has anyone ever thought that we are in dire straits because of all the changes they have already made? Change for the sake of change is not progress.

Bernie Sanders wants radical changes on the left, even though he has no idea what these changes would really do to the economy or our democratic system. Bernie’s intentions are good, but his lack of experience could plunge us into a much worse position. On the right we have idiots who want to carpet-bomb the world back to the Stone Age. To support these activities they want to take away our Social Security, Medicare and U.S. Postal Service. How anyone could support the Republican approach is mystifying to me, especially because I have been a conservative/Republican longer than most people have been on this earth. There have to be candidates out there in both parties who are more knowledgeable and aware of our situation.

History has taught us that emotional changes usually are for the worse. Hitler is the most poignant example. The German people wanted change, and they got it.

We have to drink deep from the well or we could go from bad to worse overnight. Part of the problem is that the media is controlled by the Big Money Boys and organizations like the Heritage Foundation. I guess a clear conscience and knowledge are not prerequisites for people who stage and report the news? Reporters have to be pretty, have charisma and be obedient. Any knowledge of the facts is purely coincidental. One of the last bastions of news is letters to the editor, providing they are still open to the truth. There people’s ideas and insight can be aired out without the control of people like Donald Trump or Fox News. Unfortunately, most people don’t read the letters.

There are many things wrong in America, but I believe they can be corrected without radical changes. Don’t settle for short, glib answers or quick solutions; they are for people who are too lazy to think. Look for the candidates who have practical and meaningful answers that have been thought out, not yelled out. If you are worried about your children and grandchildren, this is the time to do your homework. Don’t let thoughtlessness and laziness give us irrevocable leaders who will eventually end our democratic system of government.
