Letter to the editor:

Keep Lone Mountain clean

To all those who use fantastic Lone Mountain for recreational exercise and fresh air, I would like to make an observation.

I moved here four years ago and love the availability of such a great place to walk with my family as well as get some exercise. Recently, I took a stroll and found it to be disgusting. Besides the trash thrown all over, there were two people riding horses in the area. The horses made a couple “deposits” on the path, and when I asked the riders if they were going to clean up, I was told to mind my own business.

I asked because this park belongs to all of us, and if we don’t take care of it, it will look like a dump. Someone spent a great deal of money to make a path for the horses, but also for joggers and us slower folks. I was always taught to pick up after myself. So I did some cleaning. Two bags of debris, and I only cleaned 1/16 of the path on one side.

We need to take pride by going out on one day per month as a group and doing a cleanup. Lone Mountain may only be a mountain of dirt, but to most of us, it’s a place for relaxation.

Please try to pick up after yourself. Mom does not work or live there. Take pride in that which nature has provided and keep it natural. Remember, “see something, say something” also works when you see someone dumping trash.
