letters to the editor:

Don’t believe lies; gun rights aren’t going anywhere

Hillary Clinton cannot get rid of the Second Amendment, as Donald Trump claims, and neither could all the liberal judges she could appoint.

For that to happen, an amendment to get rid of it would have to be proposed, and that would require a two-thirds vote of both houses of Congress. Congress has difficulty getting a majority vote of both houses, forget two-thirds. Or two-thirds of the legislatures of the 50 states would have to propose an amendment to get rid of the Second Amendment.

If these hurdles were overcome, the proposed amendment would still have to be ratified, which would require a vote of three-fourths of the legislatures of 50 states, or three-fourths of conventions held in 50 states. The Founding Fathers have made it very difficult to repeal amendments or propose new ones.

The people chanting “lock her up” at the Republican conventions should be the ones locked up for supporting Trump, who couldn’t pass a test on the Constitution.
