Do you want to know what makes America great?
It is a simple answer: It is not her politicians. It is her people.
I spent last weekend watching and listening to stories about what happened on 9/11. I found myself crying at how wonderful people were to each other. One such story was about the boat lift. When the call came for help rescuing people from the tip of Manhattan, anyone with a boat showed up to help. It turned out to be the largest boat rescue in history. Almost half a million people were helped that day.
What is even more amazing is that the rescuers were not interested in whether you were a Republican, Democrat, conservative, progressive, etc. They were not interested in your religious beliefs or whether you were an American. Their only concern was that you were a human being who needed a helping hand.
This is a strange election year. It seems to be filled with anger, hatred and vengeance. I for one long for the positive attitude of so many people both here and around the world that existed on 9/11 and for months after. People helping people first and foremost. This is who I believe we really are. We stand together to solve our problems.
