Letter to the editor:

Truth is all that’s needed

David Brooks, in his Oct. 8 column “Reactions to Kavanaugh are a disgrace,” bemoans the tribalism found over the fiasco that was the Supreme Court confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh.

But Brooks is wrong when he writes: “At the heart of this case is a mystery.” He claims there was no corroborating evidence either way. That is not true. The controlling Republicans made sure that no FBI investigation was going to interview anyone who could provide such evidence.

Brooks wants to know what we can do to eliminate the polarization and ugliness of current politics. There is an answer and it is called truth. All that must be done is to demand that any argument, political or otherwise, rest on a demand for truth and facts in support. This is what President Donald Trump and Republicans have removed from the equation.
