LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

DEI is latest GOP boogeyman

In response to the collapse of the Key Bridge in Baltimore, in which six people died as a result of the bridge being struck by a disabled 213 million-pound cargo ship, Utah Republican gubernatorial candidate Phil Lyman was lightning quick in pinpointing the cause of this accident.

“This is what happens when you have governors who prioritize diversity over the well-being and security of citizens.”

He was referring to the appointment of Karenthia Barber, who is black, as a port commissioner.

Her crime, according to Lyman, is being an advocate of diversity, equity and inclusion.

Take a moment to appreciate that Lyman is horrified by the implications of these three words.

Diversity and inclusion, as opposed to excluding people from participating in certain activities because of their race, sex, age, disability or other differences.

Equity, as opposed to disregard, deception, indecency, disrespect, rudeness and bad manners.

If you oppose “DEI,” then you stand in favor of the opposites of those concepts.

At least the public now knows the true underlying cause of the Maryland bridge collapse — it was those insufferable abolitionists and suffragettes.
