LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

So many people believe the lies

When I was a child, I was easily swayed by what I was told, especially when the information came from a respected and what I thought was a knowledgeable source.

Many of my teachers related to our classes that George Washington, the first president, a well-respected and knowledgeable source to say the least, cut down a cherry tree, but lied to elders that he committed the offense.

But here it was, 200 years later, and the lie he told is still perpetuated. All the children — and the teachers who passed this story along to them — either believed this lie or actually knew the truth and refused to acknowledge its existence.

Along came another president who perpetuated another lie — that he had won the presidential election of 2020. He told this lie to his students (his supporters) and his White House cronies, and they believed him because, well, he was president.

Many of the gullible “students” believed anything the president said. Some of his followers actually believed they would be cured of a serious virus going around at the time by drinking bleach.

To this day, those who survived the many lies he perpetuated still believe that he won the election. Some of these people are still within the confines of our own congressional halls. They are within the group of dissidents who believe Washington cut down that cherry tree.
