Letter to the Editor:

Corrupt court must be reformed

The March 30 letter “Court is meant to be apolitical” opines that the Supreme Court should not be criticized for its extreme conservative activism because its function is to interpret the law, unbiased by politics.

That the court was designed to be apolitical is precisely why it is so deeply concerning that it has turned into an extension of extreme right-wing political action groups.

The court decided to shield former President Donald Trump from prosecution rather than immediately rule that presidents are not immune for the crimes they commit while in office. A principle of democracy is that no man is above the law.

Three members of the court testified under oath that Roe v. Wade was settled law, then the first chance they had, they overturned it.

Two conservative justices were found to have taken expensive vacations paid for by conservative political action groups.

The wife of a conservative justice received dark money payments from Leonard Leo, chairman of the board of directors at the Federalist Society, a right-wing judicial activist organization. She also encouraged the Jan. 6, 2021, coup attempt — and her husband refused to recuse himself from ruling on that case.

The Roberts court may go down in history as the most politically corrupt in American history, which is why it is so important that we the people reform it.
