Diversifying the economy in Nevada beyond gaming is a good thing, but placing a film studio in the middle of a residential area is not.
That is what Howard Hughes Holdings and Sony, with the aid of the Clark County Zoning Commission, want to do.
This industry has no place in a residential area. Allowing 30-plus acres to be used for the construction of 10 production studios, increased building heights to 19 feet and light towers does not belong directly across from residents.
Added traffic congestion and safety concerns are a direct threat to residents. It will cost approximately $70,000 to $100,000 to place a guard at a nearby neighborhood gate to make sure that unwanted people and tailgaters do not unlawfully enter the development.
Residents pay for privacy and safety, and this development is a direct threat to them. Certainly, Howard Hughes and Sony can find another compatible industrial location within Summerlin for this industry.
