How did we get from abortion as a right to abortion as a crime?
Roe v. Wade, along with other associated decisions, established a rule that the third trimester of a pregnancy was the point at which a human life exists. When the Roe decision was overturned, so was this rule.
Now the states are left to deal with the issue. Many are trying to completely ban abortion, threatening both pregnant women and doctors with prosecution. The result is to take away many options to avoid an unwanted birth.
Now a judge in Alabama has unilaterally decided that IVF eggs are human lives. I wonder if a planted egg that dies will result in murder, manslaughter or child endangerment charges against the mother.
Wake up, America. Urge Congress to address this issue and pass legislation designating the third trimester or some other point as the beginning of “human life.” We need national legislation to protect both mother and child.
