Letter to the Editor:

Trump made his own bed

Former President Donald Trump claims to be a billionaire, with cash assets sufficient enough to cover the $464 million bond imposed by a court in New York. His lawyer, Alina Habba, clearly stated that he had about $400 million in cash. But suddenly, he claims he cannot come up with the necessary funds by the March 25 deadline.

It is my understanding that the average citizen who cannot meet court-ordered bail bonds must remain in jail or a holding cell pending the final result of the appeal process. Why does this not apply to Trump?

Again and again, Trump seems to live above and beyond the laws of this land. He is making a mockery of our legal system with delaying tactics, countersuits, and unsubstantiated and frivolous accusations.

He claims to be the victim of a political witch hunt, yet many of the lawsuits brought against him were self-induced. No one badgered him to sexually abuse E. Jean Carroll, then publicly defame her even after repeated public warnings from a judge.

No one forced him to try to coerce Georgia election officials into overturning election results. No one forced him to falsify his Trump Corporation financial statements. No one forced him to deny the 2020 election results. No one forced him to instigate and incite the Jan. 6 insurrection, then refuse to act when it turned violent.

Is Trump finally being forced to suffer the consequences of his actions? That is, being accountable for what he says and does?
