The novel “The Ugly American” was an eye-popping criticism of Americans sent abroad by the government. It pointed out how grating their attitudes and actions were to foreigners.
It was grating that our diplomats couldn’t appreciate the history and culture of their assigned countries. A “we’re your masters” aura grated on hosts.
I don’t think we’ll elect the Republican presidential candidate this year. I don’t think we’ll make America great again.
