Letter to the Editor:

Take an honest look at Trump

Donald Trump’s presidential history has been marred by unprecedented legal controversies, from damning verdicts on sexual misconduct, to slander, to fraudulent business dealings, hush money, and incitement, to insurrection.

Additionally, his denial and mishandling of the pandemic have left us grappling with record inflation and profound loss of lives, which exacerbated its impact and demonstrated a lack of leadership in times of crisis.

However, President Joe Biden’s leadership offers hope, with inflation decreasing faster than most countries recovering from the COVID-19 crisis.

It’s also crucial to dispel the narrative attributing inflation solely to green policies, failing to acknowledge their potential to invigorate industry, create jobs and combat climate change.

Furthermore, Trump’s divisive rhetoric and behavior have deepened societal divisions and undermined democratic norms. His frequent attacks on the press, judiciary and political opponents erode trust in institutions essential to the functioning of democracy.

The urgency of our border issues is clear, yet the reluctance of the Republican-led Congress to act is disheartening. They are using the border situation as a political tool, echoing Trump’s rhetoric, even though he failed to resolve the issue during his time in office.

Lastly, Trump’s admiration for dictators raises concerns and prompts reflection. It’s troubling to witness such sentiments, as they hint at a desire to undermine the Constitution and embrace authoritarianism. The casual remarks about becoming a dictator for a day are unsettling and highlight the importance of safeguarding our democratic values.
