Fire at vacant downtown house possibly caused by transient

A fire early Sunday at a vacant home in downtown Las Vegas might have been started by a homeless person. Numerous calls were made around 4:30 a.m. about a fire at a one-story house at 308 S. 10th St., said Tim Szymanski, a spokesman for Las Vegas Fire & Rescue.
Oh, those politicians have so many ways of getting our attention
They can pay as little as $85 for a TV spot, 25 grand for a newspaper ad or ask a volunteer named Mary to write letters to voters.

A medical episode may have led to a fatal accident this morning on Boulder Highway, according to Metro Police. A collision was reported at 10 a.m. at 5719 Boulder Highway near Missouri Avenue, said Metro spokesman Marcus Martin. A Chevy Suburban crossed the median from southbound lanes to the northbound lanes, then struck a curb and a light pole before rotating back to the center median, he said.

And we look alike.” Las Vegas residents Woods and McKenney, who both turned 90 on Saturday, share more than their appearance. The twins grew up during the Great Depression, followed the civil rights movement closely and lived to see the nation’s first black president. They grew up in New Orleans during a time when the banks closed and finances were tight. But there would always be enough food on the table for family and friends.

Thirty-six hours after a stabbing cut short a concert at the House of Blues, new details are emerging with Metro Police still searching for people involved in the incident. Eyewitnesses said shortly into Tenacious D’s appearance Saturday at House of Blues, a fight broke out in the tightly packed crowd between the stage-left-side bar on the venue’s downstairs level and the short staircase to the floor. The brawl occurred around 9:30 p.m. and resulted in two victims being transported to University Medical Center with stabbing injuries that were not life-threatening, Jose Hernandez, a Metro Police spokesman, said Monday morning.

Nye County Sheriff’s deputies are searching for a missing 80-year-old Pahrump man who disappeared after driving Sunday to McDonald’s for coffee. Raymond Callahan was last seen about 8:30 a.m. Sunday leaving from 2241 S. Blagg in Pahrump, according to officials. He was driving a white 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe with the Nevada license plate 218 VRE.
