Metro: Southeast Las Vegas homeowner fatally shoots intruder

An intruder was fatally wounded when a homeowner shot him in her southeast valley home Saturday morning, according to Metro Police.

Homicide detectives are treating the incident as a case of self-defense, police said.

The homeowner summoned police about 11:15 a.m. to her house in the 7000 block of Knoll View Drive, near Eastern Avenue and Warm Springs Road, Lt. Ray Spencer said. She told a 911 dispatcher that she shot an intruder, who then drove away in a Kia.

An officer spotted the vehicle at the nearby intersection off Spencer Street and Warm Springs, Spencer said. The suspect, who had a gunshot wound and had crashed into several vehicles, was inside. He died at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.

In an interview with detectives, the homeowner said she was home when she heard a knock on her door, which she didn’t answer, Spencer said.

After several minutes, she heard her backyard sliding door shatter, Spencer said. That’s when she went into her bedroom to grab a gun, he added.

The suspect went into the bedroom and confronted her, lunging at her, and promoting the homeowner to open fire, Spencer said.

The suspect ran out the backdoor, and the woman saw the man drive away, Spencer said. She was able to give a vehicle description, which helped the responding officer to spot it at the intersection, Spencer said.

The investigation was ongoing this afternoon and detectives were scouring the area for video surveillance.

Further details were not immediately available. The suspect will be identified by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
