Road rage shooting suspect rejects plea deal, heads to trial

A Las Vegas woman has declined a plea deal and decided to go to trial against the advice of her attorney after police say she was involved in a deadly road rage shooting in August.

Las Vegas police arrested Marcia Mingo, 60, in October on aiding and abetting charges after a shooting along Interstate 15 left one man dead, KLAS-TV reported.

Mingo was driving with her son and daughter, when police say the suspected vehicle pulled up beside Jeffrey Boyajian, 58, on the highway and someone fired multiple rounds into his vehicle. Boyajian was pronounced dead at the hospital.

“During the course of the investigation, she deliberately misled investigators,” Lt. Ray Spencer said. “We just aren’t able to tell who the actual shooter is at this point.”

Police said they believe Mingo has been lying to protect the identity of the shooter.

Mingo originally entered a guilty plea on April 7 before a hearing determined she would serve 9 months imprisonment with 203 days credit for time served, prosecutors said. Court records show Mingo was not comfortable with the agreement and wanted more time to think.

During her arraignment Thursday, Mingo said she wanted to go to trial. The arraignment is scheduled to continue on April 20.
