Nevada sees coronavirus death toll increase to 187

Updated Wednesday, April 22, 2020 | 7:12 p.m.

Nevada on Wednesday reported 15 additional coronavirus deaths, marking the steepest one-day increase since the first death was counted early last month, although the figure could be the result of a delay in reporting.

The novel virus had infected at least 4,081 people in the Silver State, killing 187 as of 4 p.m. today, according to Nevada’s COVID-19 online dashboard.

By the end of Tuesday, the dashboard showed 172 deaths. It's now been adjusted to 180 fatalities for that day.

In Clark County, where public reporting is behind one day, the respiratory illness had infected at least 3,218 people, killing 150 of them as of Tuesday, Southern Nevada Health District figures show. The recovery rate stood at about 61% or 1,963 patients.

The previous largest 24-hour death toll increase in Nevada was reported on April 10, when the number of fatalities jumped from 109 to 119.

Prior to Wednesday, the state reported its largest fatality increase on April 7, when fatalities climbed from 78 to 90.

Johns Hopkins University figures show that the coronavirus, first believed to be identified in China in late December, had infected at least 2,624,846 across 185 countries, bringing the death toll on Wednesday to 183,120.
