NHP seeks driver who had role in fatal Summerlin Parkway rollover

The Nevada Highway Patrol is working to identify the driver of an unknown-model white sedan that cut off another car, causing it to lose control, roll over and kill its two occupants Thursday afternoon on Summerlin Parkway and Anasazi Drive.

Dash-camera footage caught much of the crash: It shows the victims' Cadillac STS zooming past the camera. From a distance, the slower sedan could be seen trying to enter its lane before the victim loses control and violently smashes into an embankment, sending a thick plume of dust into the air.

The patrol identified the two victims, who were unbuckled and thrown from the Cadillac, as residents of Alaska.

They were driver Timothy McDaniel, 23, of Delta Junction, Alaska, and Sergey Tipikin, 53, of Wasilla, Alaska.

Both cars were heading east on Summerlin Parkway about 3:30 p.m. when the white sedan, which was going “much slower,” partially entered the Cadillac’s lane, the patrol said.

In an effort to avoid a crash, McDaniel, who was speeding, lost control and veered off the lane onto the unpaved shoulder, overturning, the patrol said.

McDaniel and Tipikin died at the scene.

Investigators were seeking witnesses to the crash. They can call the highway patrol at 702-486-4100. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or crimestoppersofnv.com.
