When Las Vegas casinos reopen, state gaming agents will be stationed at resorts to make sure coronavirus safety guidelines are being followed.
“We won’t have agents out in the field for the sole purpose of trying to arrest someone, but just making sure, and seeing, how people are implementing these policies,” said Sandra Douglass Morgan, chairwoman of the state Gaming Control Board.
Specific guidelines have not yet been established.
“It’s going to be different. It’s something we’ve never gone through before, so it will be a work in progress,” Morgan said.
No date has been set to reopen casinos, which have been shuttered since mid-March, along with other nonessential businesses.
Gov. Steve Sisolak, who extended stay at home order through May 15, said it’s likely casinos won’t open until later.
Morgan said it will “make more sense to see how gaming can move forward once we receive more guidance from the state.”
She said casino operators can expect to be looked upon to provide enhanced cleaning measures, along with social distancing guidelines.
It will also be important that casino employees are trained properly so they can follow and help enforce the new policies, she said.
Gaming licensees will be required to submit a reopening plan at least seven days prior to opening their doors.
“I can safely say that a majority of licensees really want to do what’s best for Nevada,” Morgan said. “They want to make sure their guests feel safe.”
