GARDNERVILLE — Authorities in Nevada's Douglas County have lifted evacuation notices that were prompted by a wildfire southeast of Lake Tahoe near the California line.
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management said Wednesday the fire had grown to 28 square miles (73 square kilometers) with containment around 5% of its perimeter.
The evacuation notices were lifted Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Authorities previously said up to 1,000 homes were threatened.
The fire was burning in grass, brush and low trees about 10 miles (16 kilometers) southeast of Gardnerville.
Cause of the fire wasn't known.
One home and 10 outbuildings were reported destroyed. There were no reported injuries.
U.S. 395 on Wednesday remained closed between the junction with State Route 208 and Riverview Road in Gardnerville.
NV Energy cut off power to some areas because of the fire. The utility reported more than 500 residences were without power at one point Tuesday evening.
