Metro: 1 suspect wounded in officer involved shooting in east Las Vegas

A Metro Police officer shot and wounded a male suspect said to be armed during a foot pursuit Friday night in an east valley neighborhood, according to Capt. Nichole Splinter.

The suspect sustained minor injuries, while a juvenile who was with him before they both took off running at the sight of officers, hasn’t been caught, Splinter said.

Police only identified the wounded suspect as a male.

The incident unfolded about 10 p.m. when pair of patrol officers spotted two individuals acting suspiciously near Parkdale Avenue and Ferndale Street, Splinter said. The neighborhood is located near Lamb Boulevard and Desert Inn Road.

The two males took off running in opposite directions when police attempted to talk to them, Splinter said.

The suspect had a gun in his right hand as he was being chased by one of the officers, who gave him multiple commands to drop it, Splinter said.

As the suspect approached a house yard that was occupied by  a citizen, and still wasn’t dropping the gun, the officer opened fire and struck him, Splinter said. It wasn’t clear if the suspect pointed the gun or fired off any rounds.

No other injuries were reported.
