Metro: No coronavirus detected at county jail

There have been no confirmed coronavirus cases at the Clark County Detention Center, Metro Police said today, noting that the jail staff is taking “every precaution to prevent the introduction” of the virus into the facility.

During the booking process, Metro corrections officers check inmates for high temperature and other signs of illness. If they show coronavirus symptoms, they will be considered for house arrest or detained in isolation, officials said.

At the Rikers Island complex of jails in New York City, at least 38 people have tested positive for the virus, prompting officials to push for the release of inmates vulnerable to the virus and those being housed on low-level offenses.
