Police: Passenger killed when speeding car crashes

A passenger was killed when a car going about 80 mph in a 25 mph zone collided with a pickup truck Wednesday in North Las Vegas, according to police.

The crash happened about 3:20 p.m. at Azure Avenue and Statz Street, near Centennial Parkway and Pecos Road, North Las Vegas Police Officer Caitlyn Ebert said.

A Ford Mustang was speeding down Statz when it collided with a Toyota Tacoma pickup that turned into its path from a stop sign, Ebert said.

The Mustang then hit a light pole, and a male passenger was thrown from the car, Ebert said. The passenger, whose name was not released, was killed, she said.

The drivers were hospitalized with minor injuries, Ebert said. Impairment was not suspected in the crash, she said.
