Midday slaying near UNLV was drug-related, police say

Metro Police detectives are investigating a broad-daylight slaying Thursday in a shopping center near Tropicana Avenue and Maryland Parkway.
The drug-related shooting was reported about 12:30 p.m. in the back of a business in the 1100 block of Tropicana, police said.
Officers found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds; he later died at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, police said.
A preliminary investigation determined that the victim was confronted by a gunman, who fled in an “unknown direction” after he opened fire, police said.
The suspect was only described as a black man.
