Gov. Steve Sisolak discusses Nevadas recent COVID-19 figures during a press conference at the Grant Sawyer State Office Building on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2020, in Las Vegas.

Nevada health officials on Sunday reported 716 new COVID-19 cases and four additional deaths.

That brings the total number of coronavirus cases to 101,479 and known deaths to 1,781.

Updated statistics from the state Department of Health and Human Services show that of the 716 new cases, 604 were in Clark County.

The state’s largest county that includes metro Las Vegas also has had 82,966 of the COVID-19 cases in Nevada since the pandemic began and 1,517 of the total deaths.

Gov. Steve Sisolak has urged residents follow public health guidance, including wearing face coverings, practicing social distancing, avoiding large crowds and washing hands frequently.

The number of infections is thought to be far higher because many people have not been tested, and studies suggest people can be infected with the virus without feeling sick.

For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.

But for some — especially older adults and people with existing health problems — it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death.
