Event to provide teachers with free school supplies

Leticia Apablaza and business partner Angel Escamilla started Supply A Teacher four years ago to provide free school supplies to teachers.

"We noticed there wasn't much support for teachers around the back-to-school time ... They're spending thousands of dollars out of pocket for their classrooms," said Apablaza, who co-owns the Live to Give marketing agency with Escamilla.

Supply A Teacher is organizing a drive-thru giveaway of classroom staples from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 24 at Jaguar Land Rover Las Vegas, 6425 Roy Horn Way.

To participate, teachers must register online at www.supplyateacher.us. More than 100 teachers are already registered, Apablaza said.

Teachers will get a free bag of school supplies that includes notebooks, crayons, pencils and pens, along with swag such as coffee mugs.

Businesses supporting the event include Sam and Ash LLP, Jaguar Land Rover Las Vegas, Orangetheory Fitness and Southern Nevada Orthodontics.

Apablaza said it’s important to support teachers, even as public schools conduct classes remotely during the coronavirus pandemic.

"We are not sure where teachers will be the rest of the year, but we want them to feel ready, confident and equipped," she said.
