Metro Police investigators and a crime scene analyst look over a fatal accident on North Lamb Boulevard near Cheyenne Avenue Friday, April 23, 2021. Two people died in the crash, police said

A motorist and his passenger were killed Friday morning on a northeast Las Vegas roadway when they were hit by a DUI suspect, who veered into their lane and hit them head-on, according to Metro Police.

The crash was reported shortly before 6 a.m. on Lamb Boulevard, near Cecile Avenue, police said in a news release.

The victims, ages 47 and 30, died at the scene, police said. The other motorist, Avery Linard Nellems, was treated for minor injuries.

Nellems, 30, was subsequently booked at the Clark County Detention Center on two counts of DUI resulting in death, Las Vegas Justice Court records show.

Nellems, who was in a Nissan Rogue, was heading north on Lamb when he “failed to maintain” his travel lane, shifted to opposing traffic and hit the victims’ Nissan Versa, which was southbound, police said.

Thirty-seven people have died in Metro-patrolled roads this year.
