Man fatally stabs ex-girlfriend outside Las Vegas convenience store, police say

A man fatally stabbed his ex-girlfriend in front of her mother outside a west valley convenience store, where they'd agreed to meet to return property after the recent separation, according to Metro Police.

The victim, only identified as a Hispanic woman in her early 30s, died at the scene located near Westcliff and Buffalo drives, Lt. Ray Spencer said.

The alleged perpetrator, a Hispanic man in his early 40s, took off running and hadn't been arrested at of late Friday, Spencer said.

Police were summoned to the scene about 8:30 p.m. The victim's mother's first-aid attempts on her daughter were futile, Spencer said.

The couple had broken up three days prior and had moved out of an apartment, said Spencer, noting that police had had a previous contact with them during a domestic violence call.

Spencer didn't name the suspect and couldn't say what he was wearing but noted he was last seen running east.

By all accounts, Spencer said, the victim did everything right by meeting her ex-boyfriend at a public place and with her mother's company, but he added that post-breakups are the most volatile time in which a victim might be in danger of suffering violence.

Additional details were not immediately available.
