Police: Man runs red light and causes fatal wreck, flees scene on foot

A motorist ran a red light Friday afternoon, broadsiding a car and fatally injuring its occupant at the intersection of Eastern Avenue and Vegas Valley Drive, according to Metro Police.

The alleged at-fault driver then exited his 2021 Chevrolet Silverado and took off on foot, police said in a news release, which identified him.

It wasn't clear if police had contacted that person by late Friday, and his name didn't show up through an online search at the Clark County Detention Center.

The crash occurred about 3:15 p.m. after the pickup truck that was southbound on Eastern ran the light and hit a 2001 Nissan Altima, which was heading east on Vegas Valley on a green light, police said.

The 49-year-old victim died at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center shortly after arrival.

Thirty-eight people have died on Metro-patrolled roads this year, including two killed a few hours earlier in a crash caused by a suspected DUI driver, who struck their car head-on near Lamb Boulevard and Cheyenne Avenue.
