Gov. Steve Sisolak ordered flags be flown at half-staff on public grounds to honor Nevada State Trooper Micah May, who died last week in the line of duty.
The order mandates the United States and Nevada flags be flown at half-staff from sunrise until sunset Friday, when May’s funeral will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Central Christian Church, 1001 New Beginnings Drive, in Henderson.
“Today, the state of Nevada mourns the loss of State Trooper Micah May, who passed away while bravely protecting his community,” Sisolak said in a statement. “Kathy and I continue to extend our deepest sympathies to his wife, his family, his loved ones, and the entire law enforcement community during this incredibly difficult time.”
May, 46, was fatally struck by a car driven by Douglas Claiborne, who police say then reached for the trooper’s weapon before being shot and killed by authorities.
May was airlifted to University Medical Center in critical condition, where he remained until succumbing to his injuries. The 13-year Highway Patrol veteran is survived by his wife and two children.
