Tropicana Avenue has reopened after being closed in both directions around Decatur Boulevard for several hours today as Metro Police negotiated with a man holed up in a convenience store.

Officers responded about 11:15 a.m. to the store in the 1800 block of Tropicana to reports of a man wielding a knife and possibly making threats, police said. The store was cleared except for the suspect, who was not cooperating with officers, police said.

Officers entered the store about 2:45 p.m. and came out with a man in handcuffs. Metro Police spokesman Aden Ocampo-Gomez said no injuries were reported.

Details of the man taken into custody were not given.

Police also evacuated the surrounding area and closed the road during the standoff.

“They just told us to get out,” said Alfonso Ochoa, 50, an internet technology worker completing a job at a gas station across the street.
