Two high schoolers hurt in fight; employee takes away knife

Two Cimarron-Memorial High School students were hospitalized today after a fight involving a knife, according to Clark County School District Police.

The incident happened about 7:15 a.m. after two male students got into a fight in the school’s quad, Lt. Bryan Zink said.

A district employee disarmed the student with the knife and called for help, Zink said.

School police officers took both students into custody, Zink said. They were taken to University Medical Center for treatment of injuries, Zink said.

Police did not specify the extent or nature of the injuries.

The student with the knife will be referred to juvenile court and has multiple charges pending, Zink said. The investigation is continuing, he said.

The school was temporarily locked down “out of an abundance of caution,” Zink said.
