Metro Police identified two officers who exchanged gunfire with a man during a standoff Tuesday at a south Las Vegas apartment complex.

Officers Jody Cunningham, 46, and Manuel Papazian, 39, were placed on routine administration leave after the shootout in the 800 block of East Silverado Ranch Boulevard, near Maryland Parkway.

Police were called about 10 a.m. Tuesday to a reported domestic disturbance involving a man and woman at an apartment, Capt. Sasha Larkin said.

Officers found the woman on a second-floor landing at the apartment complex, Larkin said. As they instructed her to come talk to them, a man stepped out of his apartment and fired a round, prompting officers to fire back, Larkin said.

The gunman then holed up in the apartment and fired more shots from a window, caused officers to again return fire, Larkin said.

The man was found dead in the apartment several hours later, though it was unclear how he died.

More information and officer body-camera footage were expected to be released Friday.

Cunningham has been with Metro since 2018 and Papazian since 2014, police said.
