Reno police, other agencies mount crackdown on street racing

RENO — Reno police say officers from several law enforcement agencies conducted an operation to crack down on illegal street racing, resulting in dozens of traffic citations and two arrests for alleged driving under the influence.

Sgt. Greg Bonnette said the operation Friday evening involved officers from the Reno Police Department, the Nevada Highway Patrol and the state Department of Motor Vehicles.

Bonnette said 47 traffic citations were issued along with four warnings for traffic violations.

Bonnette said the operation was a response to community and law enforcement concerns related to the dangers and nuisances stemming from illegal street racing.

He said police plan similar operations in the future.
