What began as a tussle over a gun at a New Year’s Eve party in North Las Vegas ended in the first reported homicide in the valley four hours into 2021.
The shooting was reported about 4:15 a.m. in the 3400 block of North Bruce Street, a commercial area near Losee Road.
A party was ongoing when two people got in a physical struggle over a gun, said police, citing a preliminary investigation.
At some point, a third person “approached them” and shot one of them multiple times, police said.
The man died at University Medical Center.
No arrests have been announced and police did not provide a possible suspect description but said they don’t think the shooting was random.
“Detectives are working diligently with witnesses on the investigation,” police wrote in a news release.
