North Las Vegas Police probe suspected homicide in desert

North Las Vegas Police have opened a homicide investigation after a dead man was found in the desert outside the valley early this week.

The victim hasn’t been identified but he was believed to be between 25 and 35 years old, police said.

Investigators say environmental factors initially prevented them from determining the cause of death when the body was discovered Monday morning about 4 miles (6.5 kilometers) northeast of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway near Apex.

But the manner of his death since has been deemed to be homicide, police said.

Investigators are asking for help from anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity or vehicles in the area of North Las Vegas Boulevard and Clark Peterson Boulevard between Sunday evening and Monday morning.

Anyone with information should call North Las Vegas Police Department at 702-633-9111 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 to submit an anonymous tip.
