A Clark County School District Police sergeant’s gun accidentally fired this morning after he fell down when a car took off during a traffic stop, a police spokesman said.

No one was injured by the shot, police said.

The incident occurred shortly before 9 a.m. in the 5600 block of Cherokee Avenue, near Harris Elementary School, police spokesman Sgt. Bryan Zink said.

After being pulled over by a traffic officer, the motorist requested to speak with a supervisor, Zink said. When the sergeant showed up, the unidentified motorist took off and the sergeant fell, he said. It wasn’t clear if the car hit the sergeant, Zink said.

The sergeant sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene, Zink said.

Zink encouraged the motorist, who was driving a black Nissan sedan, to contact police to give “his side of the story.”

Investigators were viewing body-camera footage to try to determine exactly what happened, Zink said.

The school was put on a soft lockdown, which is routine anytime there is police activity in the area, Zink said.
