Officials: Nevada inmate killed by cellmate at High Desert State Prison

A High Desert State Prison inmate was slain Sunday, and his cellmate is accused of killing him, according to the Nevada Department of Corrections.

Isaiah Sharp, 21, was found about 6:30 p.m. on the floor of his cell in the prison near Indian Springs, and declared dead about 30 minutes later despite CPR attempts, officials said in a news release.

Andrew Hillford, 33, was “detained on suspicion of committing the crime,” said officials, who did not disclose how the victim was killed.

Sharp, who was incarcerated in June 2018 for robbery with a deadly weapon out of Washoe County, was serving a sentence between 44 months and 11 years, officials said.

Before the slaying, Hillford was serving 20 years to life for murder and robbery in Clark County, officials said. He was sent to prison in June 2008.

The death remains under investigation, officials said.
